Persona 3 portable or fes9/22/2023 It's a simple "This armor has more defense, therefore it is better." The dilemma given in FES of weaker armor with amazing effect vs stronger armor with useless effect is no longer present) Armor/weapons are less customizable and only give very basic stat increases with no option to utilize added effects like "mid chance to poison" or "high crit chance" (Which makes armor upgrades painfully one note. The ability to see full turn order is gone which takes away a lot of strategy and planning ahead The majority of tactics are gone (meaning that if one actually enjoyed the tactics system like myself then they simply cannot play the game like they want to) By the end of the game you only have one party member who can innately use strike skills without using a Persona, being unable to pick up some boxing gloves or an axe to fill that weakness is pretty bad) The protagonist’s ability to wield all weapons is gone (which is a HUGE gripe seeing as the game has 3 physical types being restricted to one handed swords is horrendous. I don't think party control makes P3 better in any way, but I respect the notion. You see most people did not enjoy or take the time to learn the tactics based system, so it's only fair that they'd prefer a combat system that gives direct control to the player. The gameplay in the PSP version took a nosedive as well and is watered down as much as possible. Unfortunately those aren't the only things that were butchered. So we've gone over story bits and how the game looks. Using a cursor over a low resolution png to point and click who you want to talk to instead of actually traversing environments sacrifices a lot of immersion and I've found that most people who played P3P exclusively seemed to enjoy the story a lot less that people who played the PS2 version. The only time you physically see the protagonist in game is when exploring Tartarus. Every single scene in the game is presented with pictures of the characters presented on a still image of the environment. Just know that CG's for important story moments, which are a staple of all good visual novels, are completely absent in this game. I'd reference a few scenes that are absolutely ruined by the lack of 3d models, 3d environments and anime cutscenes but again I will not spoil you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy visual novels, but this particular game is a very poor example of how one should look. Not only is P3P blatantly incomplete from a story standpoint, the main portion of the story that it does include is presented in a hideous visual novel style. 30+ hours of story and gameplay that's simply missing is inexcusable. The fact of the matter is that regardless of The Answer's mixed reception, P3P simply does not tell the full story of Persona 3. It's also referenced in future games so it's not something to be ignored. I'm personally not an enormous fan of it for reasons I cannot get into without spoiling, but the fact of the matter is it's a very important part of the story that expands and gives closure to certain character arcs. It's a very controversial bit of story/gameplay that's really hit or miss. It ties up some loose ends from the main story's ending. "For starters, the most obvious thing that sets the two versions apart is "The Answer." The Answer is a 30+ hour epilogue that is only present in Persona 3 FES. I’ll just copy and paste my mini essay on the subject I wrote to explain the differences to someone who hadn’t played either version of P3 yet.
